The Water Route

Where the river leads to the greatest concentration of life.

We follow the river's course, crossing ancient rock formations, until we reach the lagoon: the most important water conservation point in the reserve and the heart of the whole ecosystem.

It's the best place for birdwatching in the entire reserve. We have a documented record of over 100 species, including the spectacular Montezuma Oropendola (Papán Real) and endangered species that come to drink. Bring binoculars and a camera: this is where the best photos happen.

If you're up for it, the way back can be made walking through the river water. An optional dip that, according to almost everyone who tries it, ends up being the favorite memory of the day.

We're 15 minutes from the archaeological site. You can add traditional Totonac food by advance reservation and complete your day at the reserve.

Good to know

Respect for wildlife at the lagoon comes first: we keep noise to a minimum during birdwatching so as not to disturb their shelter. Departures from 2 people.

What to bring

Lightweight breathable clothing, eco-friendly repellent, and closed-toe footwear (or sneakers) that can get completely wet if you decide to take the river route back. Don't forget binoculars if you have them.
