Agroforestry Plan

Productive goal 2028 – 2029

Goal: produce 1 t of dry cacao/ha with triangular planting 3 × 3 m (1 280 plants/ha). Each tree should yield 0.80 kg.

  • Traceability and geneticsINIFAB-8 and white bean clones identified from nursery.
  • Post-harvest training – controlled fermentation and drying for premium aroma.
  • Applied research – data-driven decisions to optimize yield and quality.

Pilot plots

Plot 1 · 15 ha of young secondary forest

Demonstrate that agroforestry cacao can replace monocultures (citrus, banana, etc.) without clearing the forest.

Plot 2 · 7 ha of former pastures

Restore degraded soils with cacao and native timber or fruit species, recovering biodiversity and productivity.

Timeline

Impact 2029: 120 ha restored, 15+ native tree species, 350 t CO2e captured/year and expanded habitat for endangered species such as the ocelot and toucans.
